The Tick Key®, a unique tick removal device

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 12/30/09 -- The Tick Key®, a unique tick removal device, was spotlighted on "Good Morning America" Health this week as one of the best pet products of 2009.

Pet expert Dr. Marty Becker, "America's Veterinarian," shared his favorite pet products with TV viewers on a special ABC News segment. He noted that The Tick Key® is the only tick removal device that removes "the whole body" of the tick using natural leverage.

The Tick Key® was invented by James Binkoski of Watertown, Connecticut, as a better way to remove ticks from his own dogs. "I designed it to be the easiest tick removal device on earth," says Mr. Binkoski. "It's small and lightweight, with a special hole that slips over the tick. Just slide The Tick Key® across the skin and the whole tick is removed." The Tick Key® is endorsed by the American Canine Association. It is so unusual that it has a patent pending.

Local New England merchants were among the first to carry The Tick Key®. They soon discovered that people were buying Tick Keys to use on themselves as well as their pets. Tick Keys are now soldnationwide, through pet stores, hardware stores, major retailers and the internet. A website is devoted to the product: TickKey.com. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $6.99 and The Tick Key® can be personalized or "private labeled" for individuals, businesses or organizations.

News of The Tick Key® recently spread overseas, and the company received large orders from Australia, the Netherlands and Spain. "We sell Tick Keys everywhere, but we're proud to manufacture them in the US," says inventor Binkoski. "We're especially proud that the Keys are assembled by those with special needs, right here in our community."

"People like this product for a lot of reasons," says Donna Libby, Director of Sales and Marketing. "It's a green product, made of aluminum with organic anodizing. It attaches to a key ring, a dog or cat's collar, a backpack or a groomer's lanyard so you can keep it handy. It's 99.9% effective in the complete removal of ticks of all shapes and sizes. Best of all, it doesn't traumatize the tick during removal. That helps prevent the release of toxins like Lyme disease into the body."

Although Lyme disease may be the most commonly recognized tick-borne disease, it is only one of many diseases carried by ticks. According to the American Lyme Disease Foundation, there are approximately 850 tick species and 30 major tick-borne diseases. The US has 82 species of ticks that transmit 10 major diseases, and new tick-borne diseases continue to be discovered. "Ticks are a serious problem," says Ms. Libby. "That's why we think every pet and every person who goes outdoors should have a Tick Key."
